Many of us start the New Year with the same old resolutions – diet and exercise.

Losing weight can be a challenge for a lot of people.  Being overweight is associated with many different health risks and can put a strain on the healthcare system.

A lot of employers even encourage their employees to be healthier by giving monetary rewards.  I get $600 every year from my employer for having normal lab values.

The best investment you can make is to invest in yourself and your health and having money on the line might give you an additional push to stick to your goals.  In this article, we will go over how you can get paid to lose weight.  It’s time to be a healthier version of you while making up to $10,000 for losing weight!

3 Ways To Get Paid To Lose Weight

1. HealthyWage

HealthyWage believes that financial incentives provide additional benefits that are critical to success to weight loss.  You decide you want to lose weight and place a bet on yourself.

HealthyWage offers three different challenges you can join:

  • Individual Challenge
  • Team Challenge
  • Corporate challenge offered by your employer

Most people prefer the individual challenge where you are the only one responsible for your own results.  To determine how much you can win, use the HealthyWage Calculator.  The goal must be at least 10% of your current weight, how long you want the challenge to be, and how much money you want to bet per month.

If 10% is not something you can commit to, you have an option to do a 90-day challenge where you must lose 6% of your current weight.

But if you prefer to work in a team (team of 5), the total winnings can be up to $10,000.  Team Challenge is a great opportunity for friends and family to join and support each other.

2. DietBet

get paid to lose weight with dietbetDietBet is another weight loss app that pays you to lose weight. The payout is not as lucrative as HealthyWage, but you are more likely to win something.

DietBet offers three different challenges you can join:

  • Kickstarter: Lose 4% in 4 weeks
  • Transformer: Lose 10% in 6 months
  • Maintainer: Keep it off for 12 months

Once you’ve decided on a game, put money in the pot, complete the game, and then split the pot.  How much you win depends on how much money is in the pot and how many winners there are.

Their winners on average lose 9.4 lbs for the Kickstarter game and 25.8 lbs for the Transformer game.

DietBet has a two-step photograph weigh-in process to check your weight when you begin and finish a challenge.  You will need to submit a picture of your full body standing on the scale and a picture of the scale with their verification word.

You have up to 7 days to cancel and get a full refund if you’re not ready.

DietBet charges the following fees:

  • 25% fee for bets between $0-$99
  • 20% fee for bets between $100-$249
  • 15% fee for bets between $250-$500
  • 10% fee for bets more than $500

Similar to DietBet, StepBet is another app you can join and make money just by completing steps.  I’ve done two StepBet games and made money both times.

3. StickK

StickK is not just a weight loss app, it’s an app that lets you help you set any goal.  You can customize your own or select from their extensive list such as training for a marathon, saving for retirement, quitting smoking, cleaning the kitchen, etc.

StickK helps you stay committed to your goals by signing a Commitment Contract.

A Commitment Contract is an agreement you sign with yourself to ensure that you follow through.  You can set the stakes with a referee or bet money.   A referee is actually someone you know, such as a friend or a partner.  However, betting with money is more effective since you don’t want to lose your money right?

If you do not accomplish your weekly goal, your money will go to a pre-determined person or an anti-charity.

The only downside to StickK is that you don’t actually win money.  It’s only the threat of losing money that makes you want to accomplish your goal.  This can be discouraging for some people since there is no positive reinforcement.

Final Thoughts

Money can be a big motivator for a lot of people.  I recently completed 2 StepBet challenges where I won money both times.  I didn’t win much, but all I had to do was complete my daily steps for 5 weeks.

There is nothing better than getting paid to lose weight.  You get the best of both worlds and it could potentially save you a lot of money down the road by avoiding health complications.

Have you tried any of the challenges?
