Learning how to make extra money on the side has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
Making extra money on your spare time can help you pay off your debt, put more towards your savings for those raining days, save for retirement. I was able to pay off my $130,000 student loans in less than half the time.
The best thing about most of these side hustles is that you can work as much or as little as you want. I’ve made extra money taking online surveys, testing websites, playing games, and of course, blogging.
The possibilities are endless. You might want to save this post for later since it is fairly long and I update it frequently as I find more ways!

It requires hard work and dedication and might take years to earn a full-time income. What so great about starting a blog is that it is something you can build on the side and it is YOURS.

23. Start a drop shipping business
How does starting a business without an overhead sound to you? The internet has made it so easy for people that want to be business owners without the fund.
Set up an online storefront on Amazon, Shopify, or Clickfunnels with item(s) you want to sell. Connect your online store to a credit card processor and business bank account. Here comes the fun part – when someone makes a purchase from your online store, you turn around and purchase that item from the third party who will ship it directly to the customer. You collect the difference by just having a store.
It’s the same thing as you buying in bulk and then sell it at a smaller convenient store – but instead of having an actual store, you just have an online store without the overhead cost.
If you have any graphic design skills or you’re just one of those quirky people with funny one-liners, then you can make t-shirts and other products and post them for sale. This is a great side business that could turn into a full-time income.

Misc Ways to Make Money
30. Flea market
You’d be surprised at how profitable this is. A girl I knew did this to pay for rent and college. She’d buy brand name clothes from thrift stores. Set up a shop at a flea market and resell her items at higher prices.
31. Mystery shopping business
Secret shoppers are needed to visit and rate various retail stores, restaurants, and services. If you love shopping and eating, then this dream job is for you!
32. Massage business
A massage usually costs $60 or more and depending on where you go. The person performing the massage usually makes half of that plus tip depending on the location. A friend of mine is a freelance masseuse – she has a portable massage table and she comes to you. She charges $75 an hour. You set your own hours and work whenever you want.
This is no longer a job for a teenager to make some spare change. My adult cousin is making $1200 a month working from 12pm – 6pm. She only has to pick them up from school, let them nap and then take them to the park. She has been doing this for 12 years as a job. Once they’re older, she finds a different family.
Did you know that you can earn $50 an hour tutoring? Apply for the job through your local tutoring center and then work when you are available or you can check out Course Hero. Course Hero is online tutoring site for all subjects.
Sell your stuff for extra money
Don’t think you have anything worth selling? You’d be surprised. I had a palm pilot sitting around for years. One day, I just decided to search for it on eBay and saw someone was listing it. I listed mine and sold it for almost $60! I didn’t think anyone would want to buy it, but someone did.
You can turn it into your own online little shop by buying brand name products from Marshall and thrift stores to resell online. Once you’ve built up a fan base, you can move them to your own website to prevent having to pay eBay fees.
I used to sell my clothes on eBay, but I have found that people are willing to pay more over at Poshmark for your gently used items such as clothes, purses, shoes, etc.
I have seen accounts that sell brand new items with brands like Kate Spade. Kate Spade has great sales at their outlets and I suspect these people buy them at outlets to resell.
When it comes to clothes, I am a hoarder. I have clothes with tags still on from 10 years ago – which makes the name of this app so appropriate. It’s time to LETGO. You know you are never going to wear them again, it’s time to turn them into cash.
Sign up with the Letgo app and you can list your clothes within minutes.
Offerup is another great app to sell your used items to locals. You don’t have to worry about shipping or dealing with return. Make sure to meet in public places. My friend has made a few hundred dollars just from selling things around the house that she doesn’t need anymore. She recently sold a portable heater for $20. I found it fascinating since I can get one brand new for the same price.
39. Facebook Marketplace
You can find just about anything here to buy and sell. The best part about this is you sell to other locals – which means no shipping. My brother bought his couch used for $400, used it for 3-4 years, sold it again for $400.
Craigslist has been around for a very long time. If you have large items to sell and shipping is just not an option, Craiglist is an awesome place for that. You can find just about anything on Craiglist. I have purchased and sold a lot of things on Craiglist. It is one of my favorite places to get used furniture. I like that you only have to deal with locals, but make sure you always meet in a public place or go with another person to be safe.
41. Sell to a second store
Plato’s Closet was my go to place when I was in high school. I’ve always loved selling used clothes – I just didn’t know it was a thing back then. It pays fairly if your clothes are gently used. I used to shop at Plato’s Closet a lot too. Plato’s Closet pays upfront. But some local consignment stores might pay you a percentage once the item is sold.
42. Garage sale
I made $200 one time selling junk from around the house. I was surprised at what people were willing to pay. You don’t realize how much junk you have until you put them out there. One man’s trash might be another man’s treasure.
43. Sell your own books
I never highlighted or wrote in my books because I knew I would sell them back. Before I buy a book, I make sure the next edition is not coming out soon or else you won’t be able to sell it back. New books usually come out at the beginning of the fall semester. So make sure you sell your books back as soon as you’re done and don’t wait.
44. Sell on Etsy
If you’re crafty and love making hand-made items, then Etsy is your friend. I have purchased some unique jewelry pieces on there.

How to make extra money by renting items
Airbnb has normalized the idea of staying in a stranger’s house. A lot of people prefer Airbnb over hotels mainly because Airbnb is cheaper and a lot of rooms are very nice and modern. It is a great way to make extra money by renting out your spare bedroom or even the whole house.
If you’re prefer having short-term “tenants” over long-term tenants, Airbnb is the answer for you. You could end up making more money doing Airbnb vs having a regular tenant.
48. Rent an extra room
If you’d just rather have the same tenant instead of new strangers every day, then rent out an extra room is another option. Currently I rent out 2 bedrooms for $850 each. I had no problem finding renters. Make sure you post it on Trulia/Zillow instead of Craigslist.
49. Rent a parking spot
If you live in one of the big, congested cities such as NYC, San Francisco and have an extra parking spot because you don’t have a car – rent it out. An extra parking spot at my apartment complex is $100/month and there is a waiting list for it. Easy money if you don’t need that extra spot.

56. Get paid to lose weight
My coworkers and I used to have a money pool for weight loss chanllenge. We’d each put in $20 and set a weight loss goal. Winner(s) split the pot. It wasn’t easy finding willing participants.
HealthyWage motivates you using money and healthy.
Once you sign up for HealthyWage, set a goal weight and the amount of time you’ll give yourself to achieve it and then place a bet on yourself ranging from $20 to $500 a month.
Depending on how much you have to lose, how long you give yourself to do it and how much money you put on the table, you could win up to $10,000! If you got the extra pounds to lose and determined, this could be some serious cash for you.
57. Get paid to play with dogs with Rover
If you’re an animal lover and but not ready to make a commitment as a pet owner, this is perfect. You get paid to play with them. You can make up to $1000 a month by babysitting them. You can double your income by taking care of them overnight in your home.
What’s great about Rover is that you get to set your own schedule and prices, whatever services you want, set the size, age and other pet preferences that work for you.
MISCELLANEOUS WAYS TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY
58. Cater small events
Do you enjoy cooking or baking? My former coworker’s specialty is southern food and she managed to book at least one gig every month cooking her specialty dishes. I follow a few Instagram accounts that offer baked goods and catering services. Technology has it so easy to advertise your services.
59. Be an extra in a movie or TV show
One of my classmates in college played one of the background people in the movie Troy. She saw an ad and replied to it. Her part was very small and brief. An easy way to make money and maybe get some exposure.
60. Credit card cash back
You need to have good credit for this. I applied for a Chase Sapphire and got 100,000 points and it was equivalent to $1500 fly money. I had to pay $450 for the annual fee, but I got $300 back. The credit also paid for my TSA pre-checked application (which is good for 5 years). I had an option to pick between Global Re-entry ($100 application fee) or TSA pre-checked ($85 application fee). I basically got almost $1500 of free money. If I cash it out, then I would only get $1000 cash though.
I recycle my bottles and get cash back for it. It’s not much, but you help the environment and also make a little bit on the side.
62. Donate clothes
I donate clothes yearly to GoodWill. You’re doing a good cause and it helps when you file your taxes. If you do itemize instead of standard, then donating can make a difference.

With this job, you go to their house to help with groceries, make meals, and sometimes just to hang out.
My aunt has someone comes to her place 3 hours every day to cook or to hang out.
65. Uber Driver
It’s not every day that you can find a job with so much flexibility. You make your own hours and work whenever you want. All you need is a valid driver’s license, insurance, and a car.
In fact, you don’t even need a car to be an Uber driver. According to their website, you can rent a car for as low as $130/week which will include maintenance and roadside assistance to help keep you safe and on the road. Drive as much as you want without any additional fees, even for miles you drive while off the app.
