Are you looking for a work at home job with a flexible schedule?

Can you type fast?  Do you possess a strong command of the English language?

If the answer is yes, then online transcription might be the answer for you.  Online transcriptionists can make a full-time income working anywhere or in the comfort of their own home.

You might not realize the role transcription has in our society today, but nearly everything we watch on TV, YouTube, or Netflix has subtitles.  Somebody has to do that right?  That somebody could be you!

I have gathered 16 sites to help both beginners and pros find transcriptions jobs from home no experience needed.  As an added bonus, you can learn where you can find free transcription training.

How Much Do Transcriptionists Make?

According to Salary, the annual average salary for a transcriptionist is $45,000 with a range of $40,000 to $51,000.   That’s an average of $20 – $25 an hour.

However, most sites pay by the audio hour or per word transcribed, so the faster you can transcribe the audio file, the more money you will make.

Keep in that that while speed is important to earn more, quality is much more important.  Most sites will suspend your account if you make too many mistakes.  You are expected to do flawless work since these companies depend on you to deliver to their clients.

You can earn more if the audio files are bad or contain a speaker with a heavy accent.

What Equipments Do I Need?

You don’t need much to get started with transcription.  You might already have most of these things at home:

    • A laptop or desktop computer
    • Internet connection
    • Headphones to listen to audio files.  If you prefer earbuds, here are some cheap earbuds designed for transcription.
    • Foot pedal (not a requirement) – a foot pedal allows you to play, pause, fast-forward, and rewind with your feet.  It can be used to improve your transcribing speed.

Do I Need Training?

Don’t worry if you don’t know where to begin.  Janet Shaughnessy over at Transcribe Anywhere has created a FREE 7-Lesson Transcription Mini-Course to give you the basic understanding of what it takes to be a transcriptionist.

Sign up to join for FREE to determine if being an online transcriptionist is the right fit for you.

I am not telling you this to discourage you, but I tried it a few years ago when I was looking to quit my day job and it was soooo boring.  This is definitely not for everybody and that’s why you should check out the free course to see if it’s right for you.
